Ultrasonic Contact Lens Cleaner Takes Less Than Fifteen Minutes!

NeoWave International offers an ultrasonic contact lens cleaner, called LensMedic, that removes dirt, debris and germs from the lens area. The initial cleaning process, which lasts about two minutes, removes protein deposits and superficial dirt from the lens. The secondary disinfecting process, which lasts about 10 minutes, completely obliterates harmful germs such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus epidermidis, which cause severe ocular conditions. Using a combination of vibration, bubbling action, heat and high pressure, the ultrasonic machine completely sterilizes the lens surface.

The advantage of this machine is that it may be used to clean both soft and hard contacts and is easy to power and transport. However, since the device does use a form of thermal disinfection, a soft lens may not be able to withstand the heat on a regular basis. This is due to the high water content contained within soft contact lenses.

An alternative to the aforementioned method of sterilization is cold disinfection. Cold disinfection solutions may be based on either a chemical or hydrogen peroxide basis. The chemical system might contain added preservatives that may bother some contact lens wearers, while the hydrogen peroxide based system is a better option for those with sensitive eyes. However, hydrogen peroxide may be less effective than the chemical based system in removing dirt and debris.

If you prefer to handle your lenses as little as possible, then a heat-based disinfecting device may be a prudent investment. However, if you prefer cold sterilization, you may choose to forgo the convenience of this apparatus when purchasing your contact lens supplies.
