Implantable Contact Lenses are the New Medical Craze

Usually, the implantable contact lens is made of a soft, flexible material that is surgically connected to your cornea - or just under it - with the use of lasers. This type of implant is permanent, and often, cannot be changed without causing damage to the eyeball itself. Thus, it's important for an ophthalmologist - an eye specialist and surgeon - to sit down with a patient and stress that the operation is permanent, even if their eyes get worse down the line. While this is a very rare procedure, it can be done in cases of astigmatism and other long-term, non-degenerative eye problems.

Columbus, Ohio was one of the first places in the United States that offered LASIK surgery and other important surgeries relating to the eyes. Many ophthalmologists there specialize in these types of procedures and as such they are the leading experts in the country when it comes to implanted eye fixtures. Many Americans will flock to the Buckeye state to be examined and to prepare them for deciding whether or not this procedure is right with their prescription. In most cases, this procedure is done only in extreme cases and is not recommended for the average day-to-day glasses or lenses wearer.

Implanted contact lenses aren't for everyone, but for the few that it works for, it can be the difference between hardly seeing and seeing clearly; thus, those who go under the knife are more likely to be happy and healthy while seeing the world in all its vibrant colors.
