Custom Color Contacts Mean Big Business
Custom Color Contacts are, by definition, made to order. They are for a wide range of applications from changing the eye color for purely cosmetic reasons to the creation of a personalized design to masking deformation of the eyes. Sometimes, colored lenses are employed to change eye color in films and photographs for a variety of reasons. For example, they may be used to alter the perceived personality of the character. But beyond cosmetic changes, this lens has the capability of being designed to use as a prosthetic eye.
In more general use, people use colored contact lenses for special occasions when a change of appearance is wanted, perhaps an important social gathering or a holiday like Halloween. Other times, people feel their natural eye color doesn't reflect their true personality and wear colored lenses to alter other people's view of them. For example, a person with green eyes may not wish to be perceived as jealous and might wear brown tinted contacts to disguise themselves.
Almost without exception, detailed examination is required before custom contacts are manufactured and color samples selected. Exact measurements are required along with confirmation that the contacts will not cause damage to the eye or discomfort to the wearer. Hand painting is the most common coloring method used, and the contacts are almost always soft and disposable.
Where vision-correcting colored lenses are required, the choice of programs is limited slightly. It also should be noted that some types of contacts are not suitable for coloring while others are limited in the intensity of the shading. Where vision correction is required, special care is taken to assure the pigmentation does not compromise the medical benefits.
