In today's marketplace, where many generic brands of just about anything you could imagine pop up in markets and other places, it's no wonder people try to avoid such rip-offs as much as possible. When it comes to counterfeit contact lenses, the same mentality is advisable, especially since these generic rip-offs could have long-term, damaging affects that could leave your eyes in even worse condition than not wearing a corrective lens at all. It's important to be able to make a good judgment call when it comes to these fakes in order to avoid even more vision problems. After all, who wants to save a few bucks when they could end up going blind for doing so? That's right, nobody, and you shouldn't be any different in thinking you can get away from being duped by a fake set of contacts.

Realize that where you buy contacts is a key indicator in determining their validity. If you are buying contacts from a street vendor, market, or other non-traditional store, chances are you might be going home with a product that is less than usable. Most of these contacts will not be prescription-based or even endorsed by the Food and Drug Administration. And, since contacts fall under the title of prescriptions, the FDA does regulate their release into public consumption markets. Many FDA-approved products will have a logo or will say they are approved. If you aren't sure, then call the FDA hotline and inquire. It's always better to be safe than sorry when dealing with contact lenses and your eyes.
