Contact Lens Care Ideas
Contact lens care can help you to maintain healthy vision.
If you are a contact lens wearer, proper maintenance of your lenses can prevent a host of aggravating problems. The most basic elements of contact lens care are washing and rinsing your hands thoroughly before handling lenses. Dirt, debris, and germs from skin can become ingrained on the lens and cause your eyes to irritate and swell.
There are several steps involved in the care of your lenses. Whether you wear soft or hard contacts, your daily routine should include both cleaning and disinfecting your lenses and placing them in the appropriate storage container after wear.
After removing your lenses for the evening, place a few drops of cleaning solution on your lenses and rub vigorously in a circular motion for at least twenty to thirty seconds. Then, lenses should be soaked in a disinfecting solution to remove any lingering bacteria. Lens may be soaked for a specific period of time specified by product requirements and your vision care specialist.
Certain types of contacts require additional care. For example, you may be required to clean your lenses with an enzyme tablet to remove extra protein build-up. If you are a soft contact lens wearer, you must be particularly vigilant about removing protein residue. On the other hand, if you feel that you are unable to commit to a regimen of daily care, disposables are a reasonable alternative. Disposable lenses may be worn for a day and then discarded.
Whatever you choose, be sure to consult with your vision specialist to make sure that you have the appropriate contact lens supplies at hand.
