Colored Gas Permeable Contact Lenses Allow Hard Lens Wearers Different Looks

Colored gas permeable contact lenses offer those with special vision needs to also be able to change the color of their eyes. Unlike the hard lenses of the past, rigid gas permeable lenses fit between hard and soft. They are made from a special silicone gel that allows oxygen to pass through the lens, providing a healthier environment for the eye and less eye infections.

There are some inherent advantages to using rigid gas permeable lenses over soft contacts. They are much less likely to have protein deposits build up on them since they have much less of a water percentage in their makeup. Being stronger and less likely to tear, rigid gas permeable lenses have a longer life span.

Several eye conditions favor the use of specialty rigid gas permeable lenses over soft lenses. Persons with keratoconus and presbyopia need the extra strength that the rigid lenses provide. Bifocal contacts and multifocal contacts are also options for those looking for a rigid contact. All colors that are available in the soft, disposable variety can be purchased in the rigid gas permeable style.

Look at the different types of colored lenses on the Internet. Many websites offer examples of how the lens would look on you. Some of the colors that are available for contact wearers are aqua, blue, green, gray, blue topaz, hazel, violet, amethyst, jade, brown, and amber. Natural lighter eyeshades can be enhanced with lightly tinted lens and dark eyes can be made richer by using a two-tone color contact for dramatic coloring.
