RGP Contact Lenses Ptosis Is A Curable Ailment
Ptosis caused by wearing rigid gas permeable contact lenses does not cause permanent damage to the eyes.
RPG contact lenses ptosis is a drooping of the eyelid that may be caused by wearing rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses for a long period of time. Some of the factors that might contribute to ptosis in some cases include contact lens migration, inflammation, and undetermined causes.
Ptosis from RGP conact lenses has been found in a group of studies to be a significant number. The lens removal procedure may be the culprit in a large number of the ptosis cases. By pulling on the eyelids side-to-side then followed by a strong blink, might be a major factor in the onset of ptosis. Other causes such as constantly rubbing of the lens edge against the palpebral conjunctiva may play a factor.
Ptosis is also known as the drooping eyelid. It can affect both eyes but in the case of RPG contact lenses ptosis usually only one side is affected. Ptosis usually occurs naturally in the elderly but due to the rigid gas permeable contact lenses, young to middle age patients have been seen in an increasing number of cases. In severe cases, a person may be unable to see out of the affected eye due to the inability to lift the eyelid up.
Most ptosis cases can be easily treated in a doctor's office. Consult your eye doctor if you suspect that RPG contact lenses ptosis may be your problem. In the most severe cases, surgery may be required to tighten the levator muscles and improve your vision and appearance.
